Issue 44 – Cultura Hispana
Our latest issue of The Lakelander pays homage to a culture that has greatly impacted our city.
In the Hispana Cultura issue, we’re celebrating the multitude of ways that Hispanic culture has contributed to Lakeland.
Our cover story explores immigration and the issues surrounding DACA by highlighting the unique journey of SEU alumna Sayra Lozano as she rose above adversity and uncertainty to live a life dedicated to being an advocate for her community.
In the wake of Hurricane Maria, Lakeland has become a new home to many Puerto Ricans wanting to start a new life. In our People feature, “To Begin Again,” we get to meet some of these new residents while learning more about their individual stories.
We also get a taste of Hispanic cuisine in “Hecho Con Amor” which highlights unique Nicaraguan dishes. Also, take a tour of some of our city’s favorite Latin restaurants in “Variety in Similarity.”
Hispanic business owners, new residents, and professionals are at the forefront of our city’s growth, and we are grateful to highlight our Hispanic neighbors in this newest issue of The Lakelander.
