Thanks to Central Florida’s abundance of fresh-water lakes and warm weather, residents of Greater Lakeland enjoy a perfect environment for aquatic hobbies. From fishing to paddle boarding, our community sees no lack in opportunity to get out on the water.
One of the area’s most popular activities, water skiing, has been celebrated in Central Florida since 1943. Winter Haven has been named the capital of water skiing and has proudly hosted and encouraged athleticism through the sport for decades.
The Florida Water Ski Federation hosts events around town throughout the year, where both new and experienced athletes compete to hone their skills. To aid the community and encourage outdoor activity, the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation will award scholarships to three talented college students that compete in the Florida State Water Championships. These $1,000 scholarships will be available via an online application for promising young athletes involved in the competition later this year.
