In a new series of posts, we will be asking Lakelanders to share what is inspiring them in the world of art and media. We hope sharing these recommendations will help you find your next great read or the perfect flick to add a little something extra to your week.

Our first guest contributor is Jason DeMeo. He and his wife Hillary run We Are Curio the first innovation agency in Central Florida that focuses on making innovation and design thinking accessible through identity, ideation, and strategy. Jason serves as a Subject Matter Expert in Design Thinking and Adjunct Professor at Southeastern University. He has a certificate in Design Thinking from Harvard and holds a B.S. in Marketing and M.A. in Ministerial Leadership from SEU.

His passions are for good design, healthy dialogue, and helping people and organizations flourish. He was also a rapper named FranchICE in another life.

Jason speaks on topics such as contrarian leadership, unlocking creativity, innovation, and good design.

He and his wife Hillary have lived in Lakeland for 14 years and couldn’t imagine a better place to live.

Here is what’s inspiring Jason this week:

Movie

Borg vs. McEnroe

I love tennis and I love Shia Lebouef. Pair that with a compelling story and beautiful cinematography and you have a great Friday night.

Music

everything by nas

Hip hop has blessed us so much in the last few months. The Carters album, Childish Gambino “This is America”, Ye, Pusha, and Cudi all have been on repeat. If you want to be moved emotionally, listen deeply to “everything” by Nas.

App

Notability

I take paper notes all the time at We Are Curio. I also lose them all the time. I finally made the jump to an iPad Pro with the iPencil and I haven’t looked back. Notability has been the best app I could find for an immersive note-taking experience

Art

Jujmo

Ever since I saw the painted garage door at “ART/ifact” in Lakeland, I wanted to find the artist who did it. I reached out to her, “Jujmo” and we have commissioned her for two six foot pieces for the studio that represent the mix of art and science. WE ARE SO EXCITED.
